Distinction between Barristers and Solicitors in Hong Kong

Romain Pierre Levaire is a qualified barrister in Hong Kong and accredited at all levels of courts and tribunals in Hong Kong.

In the Hong Kong context, there is a distinction between barristers and solicitors. These are two distinct categories of the legal profession. Here are the differences between these two professions:

1. Barristers:

  - Barristers specialise in court representation and advocacy. They are specialists in communication and legal procedures. They provide written or oral advice to clients.

   - They are often consulted for complex matters, disputes and trials.

  - Barristers work independently and are often members of a chamber of barristers.

   - They may be engaged by solicitors to represent a client in court.

  - Barristers have a duty to wear robes and wigs when appearing before certain courts.

2. Solicitors:

   - Solicitors specialise in legal advice, drafting contracts and representing clients in legal matters. They can give legal advice, draft contracts, handle business transactions, etc.

   - They usually work within a law firm.

The division of work between barrister and solicitor depends on each case. In some cases, the solicitor is mainly responsible for administrative tasks and the barrister undertakes the majority of the legal representation work (legal submissions and arguments, written or oral advice, preparation of legal documents etc.)

Romain Pierre Levaire works closely with numerous solicitors. You can indicate to your solicitor your wish to be represented by him or any other barrister.
